Best French Toast

This is a "special occasion" breakfast - like General Conference weekend or Thanksgiving morning!
Use a loaf of cinnamon-swirl bread.
Batter:
4 eggs
2/3 cup cream
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
¼ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Syrup:
1 cube butter
1 cup sugar
½ cup buttermilk
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla or maple flavoring

Mix together the ingredients for the batter. Dip slices of the bread in the mixture and cook both sides on a hot griddle.

For the syrup, mix the ingredients together in a saucepan. Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture gets frothy white. Remove from heat and serve warm over the French toast.
