Caramel Popcorn

My family got this recipe from my Aunt Joan years ago. It has been enjoyed by my family/extended family at many Thanksgiving gatherings. 
   
1/2 cup butter  (1 square)                                                 
1 lb. brown sugar (2 cups)                                                
1 cup white Karo syrup                                                    
1 can sweetened condensed milk                                   
1 tsp. vanilla                                                                      
2 1/2-3 gallons popped popcorn (10-12 qts.)   

Combine butter, sugar and syrup.  Stir well, boil over medium heat.  Stir in condensed milk.  Stir constantly until softball stage (228 degrees).  Add vanilla. Pour over popcorn.
