Christmas Citrus Compote

A sweet friend brought this to my husband when he was ill with a high fever. He said it saved his life.

1 large jar grapefruit (pink or ruby red)
1 large orange, peeled and cut up
2 small cans mandarin oranges, drained

Syrup:  1/2 cup sugar
             1 cup water

Heat until dissolved, cool, then pour over fruit. Cover and refrigerate over night.

Add:  2 sliced bananas 2 hours before serving.

(You can add more oranges to taste or double or triple recipe, served in a punch bowl, for guests)
