Yams

Served at the Sorority House in college. One of our Thanksgiving favorites.

7 yams (approximate)
7 apples

Boil yams until tender. Cool and peel, then slice in 1 inch slices. Peel, core and slice apples in 1/2 inch slices. Put apple slices in bottom of casserole dish, then yams and continue to layer ending with apples on top.

Syrup:
2 cups water
1/4 lb. butter
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch

Cook syrup until clear then pour over yam/apple layers. Cover with lid or foil. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour. Garnish with maraschino cherries.
