Brownie Cake

To me, this is "Grandma Charlotte's Chocolate Cake." It's my favorite! We have this cake on birthdays with our extended family and everyone loves it.
1 cup butter
2 squares (1 oz. each) unsweetened chocolate
1 cup hot water
2 cups flour, sifted
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
2 squares (1 oz. each) unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup milk
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Cake: Melt butter and chocolate in saucepan. Add water and boil for 2 minutes. Mix flour, sugar, salt and baking soda. Sift. Combine with chocolate mixture, eggs, milk and vanilla and beat several minutes until creamy (batter will be thin). Pour into a 9 x 13 greased pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool.
Frosting: Melt butter and chocolate in saucepan, Add milk and boil until it thickens and begins to separate. Add this mixture to powdered sugar and mix with electric mixer until very creamy. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Spread on brownie.
