Filled Cupcakes

I loved these growing up. They are so easy and don't require frosting - unless you want it. Children enjoy making them because it's like a magic trick that the filling ends up inside.

1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
Dash salt
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate chips

Prepare cake mix according to directions. Place cupcake papers in muffin pan. Fill papers 2/3 full with cake mix. Blend cream cheese with sugar, beat in egg and salt. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop a tablespoonful onto center of each cupcake. Bake as cake package directs.  Frost with chocolate frosting if desired.
