Homemade Oreos

Caroline Hale

This recipe helped me win over my in-laws. I made these for my husband's family events and trips and all the siblings and grandkids would cheer when I walked in the door with them. Take these to any party and they will be gone by the end -no doubt - so easy and such a crowd pleaser! You can also throw in a few drops of food coloring into the frosting to make them festive for any party or holiday.

Cookie:
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 Devil's Food cake mix

Mix together and form into 1" balls. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Frosting: Cream together:
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 square butter, softened

Once cookies have cooled spread frosting on one cookie and place another cookie on top forming an Oreo. Enjoy!
