Marguerite's Sweet-Sour Coleslaw
Becky Johns
This is the closest recipe I have ever found to the Cole Slaw my mom made. It is not a sweet coleslaw but more a sweet/sour flavor. I like it best the first day, when it is crispy. I changed to low fat sour cream so it would still be creamy but not as high in fat as full sour cream, and the taste is the same.
1 (16 oz.) pkg. prepared coleslaw mix
1/4 red onion chopped, or 1 tsp. dried onion flakes
1/4 cup mayonnaise (I like Best Foods)
1/2 cup low fat sour cream
1/2 tsp. black pepper
3 Tbsp. cider vinegar
1 Tbsp. sugar
Whisk together dressing in a large bowl. Add onion, then coleslaw mix and refrigerate until ready to serve. (A fresh cabbage may also be used, sliced thinly and chopped a little using the same amount of dressing.)
