Mom's Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

This recipe, given to me from my mom, originally comes from the book “Giving Love a Memory.” My mom has always been a great cook and I have been blessed with many loving memories of her cooking. It's a great fall dessert, but delicious anytime!

6 cups peeled and sliced tart apples
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup water + 1 tsp. vanilla added to water
Topping:
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Mix apples, sugar, cinnamon and water. Arrange in a 9 x 13
pan. Mix topping until crumbly and sprinkle over the apple mixture. Bake at
350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Serve with ice cream.
