Sweet Chocolate Quinoa

Elder Chris Matthew Nielsen
Peru Lima West Mission

A blind Peruvian sister made this for my companion and me and I loved it. She has been a member of the church for 30 years and attends church every week. She is a great example to me.

Quinoa 200 grams
Flour 200 grams
Evaporated milk (1 can)
Sugar 1/2 kilogram (or whatever you prefer)
Cinnamon sticks and two cloves
Chocolate bar

Rinse the quinoa well in a strainer until the water stops coming out cloudy. Drain and arrange in a pot. Turn the heat on and let it dry for a few seconds, add the water, cinnamon stick and cloves, bring to a boil, lower the temperature and cook until the liquid evaporates. Add about 750 ml of milk, bring to a boil, stir and lower the heat. Start cooking slowly, stirring continuously from time to time to avoid sticking to the bottom. Add the chocolate bar and sugar and let it boil, then add the flour (previously dissolved in a cup of water and poured through a strainer.) Let it boil for 5 minutes stirring continuously from time to time. Add the evaporated milk. If you need more sugar you can add more. Can add raisins if desired. (This recipe was submitted in Spanish. A Peruvian woman living in Salt Lake translated it.)
