Sid’s Famous Spiced Red Plum sauce **
Lisa Thornton
Twenty-two years ago Sid planted a red plum tree when we moved into our home on Nottingham Way. He made this spiced plum sauce out of the first plums off that tree. The plums only produce every other year so he has to make enough to last two years. Thanksgiving and Christmas are never complete without it. Many neighbors and family also now crave this amazing sauce!
1 qrt. of pureed plums with skins (skins are what helps it
thicken - blend in food processor to
make the puree)
1-3 cups of sugar (depending on sweetness of plums)
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground ginger
Boil all this until it reaches the thickness you desire, usually about 45-60 minutes. May can as you would jam. Heat and serve with favorite chicken, turkey (in place of cranberry sauce), even bake on top of meatloaf. (For an easy variation, start with plum jam, add the spices, heat and serve.)
