Jane's Whole Wheat Bread

Jane Jones

When my kids were young I always made big batches of bread. I loved it when bread
machines came out - the kind that mixed, rose, and baked the bread - but we didn't like
the loaf shape. So I tweaked the recipe to make 2 loaves - a bigger batch -  and used the
dough setting. At that point I shape the loaves, put them in two pans, let them rise and bake them.
It's so fast and easy that I still make bread a couple times a week with some to give away.

2 1/2 cups hot water
2 Tbsp. oil or applesauce
6 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2  tsp. salt
2  tsp. yeast
1  tsp. dough enhancer (heaping)
1/3 cup powdered milk
1/3 cup brown sugar

Put all ingredients in order in bread maker. Put it on dough cycle. When dough cycle is
over, take it out and shape into 2 loaves. Let rise until double in size and then bake
at 375 degrees for 23 minutes.
